I have been asked to make a " sofa quilt / throw" for someone's 69th birthday. She's average size ( don't know about her sofa
Triumph of hope over experience :D

Do you know whether she's likely to want to snuggle up with someone else?  We often have the BOM quilt (51" square) on the settee, which is great for one of us, but for both of us it would ideally be longer.
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

A quick look at sizes of M&S and John Lewis comes up with:
M&S Small - 130cm x 170cm = 52" x 67"
M&S Large - 150cm x 100cm = 59" x 79"
John Lewis - 140cm x 190cm = 55" x 75"

I'm a big fan of square quilts.  My back of the sofa quilt  is 48" square (sofa is a 2 seater) and is a perfect size to snuggle under.  It's kept me warm and cosy during my month of lambing night shifts.
It was my TSP mystery quilt.

How wonderful to hear that so many of you ... Well two of you, use your TSP quilts ... How about a couple of pics ???

How about making a courduroy quilt ... This one in fine needlecord was a very quick and easy make and (Used to) cover two snuggled up on a sofa beautifully.
Needlecord was easy to work with and supper snuggly.

Its 60" sq and used 6" finished squares ... easy to cut using a 6 1/2" ruler

Can't begin to imagine why anyone would want to get under a quilt on the sofa - I might be odd but we have the heating on!

We also have the heating on but when there's a cold north easterly blowing a little extra is nice.

@Catllar many people use them more to protect the furniture or as a color accent than to snuggle under for warmth.

We use the heat too but it gets pricey to have it hot enough that I don't want extra layers. Last night before bed I actually put my coat on with the hood up. It was a bit chilly.
Hey Bill! Read the manual!  Hehehe.

My husband & I have very different tolerances for cold. Sometimes I'm fine & he's chilled, so he may want a throw blanket when I am warm.
