what is the right/wrong way re the thread?

@Acorn Thread the needle then cut the length you want. You can thread several needles on to the spool and just take a new one each time. If you cut a length then thread from the end you've just cut, it tends to twist as you sew. If youy thread first you know you've got the right end; something to do with how ther fibres are twisted to make the thread.

Exactly as @Deafoldbat said. Tula describes thread as looking like a Christmas tree under a microscope which is a very simple but effective image I thought.

Well!  I never knew any of that - but I do now.

My kit arrived today.  The instructions say 'Additional Requirements:  Sewline Glue Pen and Refills...'  Guess what else arrived in the post today!!

I am very impressed with the kit - it even has a colouring in sheet for trying out colour schemes.  Now I have the lovely job of choosing the fabrics.

How are the, Epp pieces attached to the background or is the background all pieced too. It’s difficult to see in the picture.  It looks lovely. Looking forward to seeing your colours. @Acorn

I was wondering that @Celia but now that I have the pattern I can tell you that the whole thing is pieced.  The rosettes are actually relatively simple - 6 petals, and 6 smaller pieces in the junctions (leaves, maybe).

The one in the picture has been done with fussy cutting of patterned fabrics, so it looks far more complicated than it is.  I may do that with some of the blocks, but not all of them - apart from anything else it would take a vast amount of fabric to do that for all of them.  I will take a photo of my fabric later today - I could do with some ideas for the background colour too.

Thanks for the information, I have got some pieces finished just the regular hexagon shape and am wondering what to do with them.

Looking forward to seeing your fabrics

This is the set of FQs that I have earmarked - there may be others added as I go along.

Any suggestions as to background colour?  I tend to default to either cream or navy, but I'm really sick of sewing navy fabric!

I think you might be right @Lowena - or maybe mid blue.  How about this?

Have you considered greys? It is difficult to show on the screen, but bottom of these three options is supposedly slate grey according to the graphic app.

I like the slate grey - but when it comes to grey greys I feel very much as @Lowena does about green!
