StitchinTime’s First EntryI saw
this quilt while meandering around the internet and realised I could make a smaller version using the Courthouse Steps and Ohio Star blocks from
NightQuilter’s Sew Tiny Sampler FPP pattern. However, after making one 1¼” Ohio Star block making another 20 or so Ohio Stars was not an option and I switched to plan B and made a variety of Economy, Arkansas Star and Star blocks instead.

Using patterned fabrics for this size of block made it difficult to get colour balances correct – the fussy cut centres in the Economy blocks looked fine with the blue fabric when side by side, but when reduced to a ¼” border round a ½” square, some of the contrast between the two fabrics was lost. Quilting was by machine with a mixture of straight-line stitching-in-the-ditch or stitching around some of the stars.

The Sew Tiny Sampler pattern gave mixed messages regarding the size of the blocks and I thought the blocks finished at 1” not 1¼” so this finished larger than expected at ~9” square.
