Mine is finished but it has turned out bigger than expected  :\ . I’ll take more photos and do a proper entry post during the week. (I might spend the rest of today trying to make another smaller quilt.)

I had a spare economy block so I added few borders, but this might be more mug rug than mini quilt.

StitchinTime’s First Entry

I saw this quilt while meandering around the internet and realised I could make a smaller version using the Courthouse Steps and Ohio Star blocks from NightQuilter’s Sew Tiny Sampler FPP pattern. However, after making one 1¼” Ohio Star block making another 20 or so Ohio Stars was not an option and I switched to plan B and made a variety of Economy, Arkansas Star and Star blocks instead.

Using patterned fabrics for this size of block made it difficult to get colour balances correct – the fussy cut centres in the Economy blocks looked fine with the blue fabric when side by side, but when reduced to a ¼” border round a ½” square, some of the contrast between the two fabrics was lost. Quilting was by machine with a mixture of straight-line stitching-in-the-ditch or stitching around some of the stars.

The Sew Tiny Sampler pattern gave mixed messages regarding the size of the blocks and I thought the blocks finished at 1” not 1¼” so this finished larger than expected at ~9” square.

StitchinTime’s Second Entry

This was last minute make when I realised by my first mini quilt had come out larger than expected. I had a trial run Economy block left over from my first quilt and so I just added borders and cornerstones around this. The borders start at ¼” at the centre and gradually increase to ⅝” at the outer edge.

It was machine quilted using stitch-in-the-ditch along the border seams with some zig-zag and trellis patterns to fill in the wider borders.

The finished size for this quilt is ~5” square.

@Iminei  what do I have to do with them? I thought that putting them on here was sufficient unto itself?? No?  Don't say I have to go into the bowels of  laptop again - it's scarey in there :(

Catllar's entry No.1. It measure 8 x 11 and is a pattern from the tinterweb freebies.

It's all done by machine except the binding. Had a real fight with the mitres being so fiddly, I think I overtrimmed the seam allowance, so not my idea of fun but a lot of judicious pressing has evened out the worst of the sins.

The binding is a single bind  to reduce bulk and it's cut on the straight grain.  Quilting is simple cross hatch.

It is made from scraps and will now go straight to the charity box as I have no use for this sort of thing. It was a challenge.

Catllar's entry no 2.  This is 9" finished. Each strip is 1/4" finished.

The fabric is cut down from a jelly roll apart from the batik which is used in one of the strips and the backing.

Quilted by hand in bullseye and in  freehand scallops on the border.

Didn't use a pattern, just a simple rail fence and played with the placements.  As there are so many seams I didn't bother with a sandwich layer, it is already thick enough.

It will make a mug rug. I shan't be doing the mini quilts again any time soon!

@StitchinTime you made some true marvels! I gasped aloud when I saw your tiny Ohio stars.

@Catllar what a cool rail fence! It reminds me of Gee's Bend quilts.
