Block 6 - The AMETHYST Star
« on: August 28, 2021, 11:30:04 AM »
Welcome to
TSP's Mystery Quiltalongathon Block for 2021
...

After the great success of last years QAYG BOM,
I decided to combine the BOM with a finished article,

A Mystery Quiltalongathon !!

A BOM with an agenda !!!

but here's a clue, I've called it

The Sparkling Stars Quilt

I thought, as Stars are so often referred to as Diamonds,
I would assign a different Gemstone to each Block.
and try and convey a sense of that jewel with my choice of fabrics .......

You can follow my choice of gemstone for each star ...
or choose your own according to the fabrics you have to hand

So this is the FINAL block of our
MysteryQuiltalongathon

The SIXTH Block of
2021 TSP's Mystery Quiltalongathon

Is the

The AMETHYST Star
The Amethyst Star

As ever,
Click on the first pic to bring it up to Full size
and then on the i Icon
(top right corner of the pic on a laptop, click the three dots on a tablet/ phone)
to bring up the instructions to the side of the pic.

 Please DO read right through the tutorial before you start cutting or sewing

*    *     *     *     *      *

There will be SIX Gemstone Blocks, posted at 6 weekly intervals
from the end of January to end of August,
giving you ample time to gather your fabrics and make your Stars!

You will need to make between FIVE and THREE Blocks for each Star.

The techniques used throughout the Sewalongs will be fairly simple
and there are Tut's available in The Darkside Tutorials should you need to refresh your memory.

This Mystery Quilt comprises a 5 by 5 grid of 12" (f) blocks
to make a finished quilt of 60" sq,
before any added borders or sashing.

You can of course make it smaller or even larger if you wish.

* * * Fabric Requirements * * *

This Mystery Quilt will require approximately 3m's of
ONE consistent background fabric throughout the quilt

and a different Gemstone colour each month ...
within which there will be between 3 - 6 different shades.

(I'm not so good at the Maths but a 1/4 metre or FQ of each gemstone colour/shade should be ample)

And everyone who finishes 2021 with a completed quilt
will receive an exclusive

The Sewing Places's
Prize Winners Enamel badge or Sew on Embroidered Patch!!!

I love this one @Iminei , I need to sort my colours for this one.  I think I am lacking oranges/reds/yellows so will be busy in my stash.

Thanks @Iminei
This is very pretty. Hoping I have enough 'Amethyst' fabric but doubt it. It may have to become a topaz star

Edit: may have enough with patching the brights and a not quite right dark - do not want to buy extra

This one's really pretty. Thanks @Iminei  :loveit:

The weather is great in Cornwall at the moment so I'm making the most of being able to be outside because I know it won't last. -< Once this spell of sunshine has gone I'll be back to my quilting. I can only work on one project at a time, otherwise nothing gets finished, so I'll be working on my Project Linus animal quilt. It's layered ready for quilting on the embroidery machine so shouldn't take me too long (haha!). Then I'll turn my attention to the Quiltalongathon Blocks. I think I'm still on Block No.4 but I'm really looking forward to doing them. I'll just be that bit behind everyone else! As usual. :)

I've been unpicking triangles that happen to be the right size but made into HST 's for something else. It is in the bright colour. Should just about have enough

Then will start working out if I have enough of the other fabrics  :S

All done now. Don’t know when I’ll have time to put them all together, but it’s a relief to have them all sewn.

On the gardening forum I posted this

One of the more observant gardeners on it spotted  the mistake - I hadn't until she said.

The 2nd block I have also made a mistake in a different position. I will unpick the 2nd mistake but not the one pictured

Managed to cut out last night and I've made one for now.

Isn't it annoying how some colours just WON'T photograph accurately?
It's nothing like these bluey shades. It's much nicer colours and properly purple.
