I wanted to test how well leather would embroider - so here it is, rather pleased with it, but not sure what use it is as the opening is quite narrow.

Me likey.
The opening is what...3.5 ish inches? Is it too late to fit a strap and hang it over your head with the bag resting by your side...as you ride? I'm thinking it could hold your keys and some change thus solving the no room for keys in the saddle bag problem.
Where'd you find that bike fabric? I want some!

That's great. I'd never have thought of embroidery on leather - what sort of needle did you use? Where did you get the leather offcuts? They looked fab in your picture.

@Lachica I just used the normal needle in my embroidery machine, I'd read somewhere to do that, but use a leather needle and a long stitch if using the sewing machine.  The leather was from a facebook group, can't remember which now.

@Tamnymore I'm not particularly talented - this was all done on the embroidery machine following instructions

@Bill The pattern did have a strap actually, but I didn't bother with it as this was really just a test piece.  And I have added a little pocket to the inside of my saddle bag for my keys.  I've had that fabric for years - but hang on, I think it has something written on the edge...

That is very good @Bodgeitandscarper  was the stitching on the outside edges done with a sewing machine, it nearly looks like an overlocker?

That's a lovely first effort @Bodgeitandscarper .  I have loads of upholstery leather to use up, and often wondered how to use it...

I will follow you with interest...

Jessie, who is very happy to be here!!  :),  but who has far too many sewing machines to be healthy, and a fabric stash which is becoming embarrassing.
