Good morning to all you happy sewers ...

Is it sewers, sewists or something else entirely

Thank you for accepting me to your lovely community, I stumbled onto this place by accident and am looking forward to delving into the many topics that are here.

I've been sewing on and off for many years (right back to school when I managed to sew my nightdress onto my actual skirt - but hopefully I have improved since then) but bought my own sewing machine back in 2010 when some friends and I decided to attend the Regency promenade that kicks off the Jane Austen festival so obviously we would have to make our own dresses.

I think it is fair to say that I have had a few mishaps along the way, but have definitely seen some improvement since the first dress I made on my own; although my time keeping skills haven't improved as I was still hemming this years dress the night before we were due to travel down by train (yes we travel down via Reading to Bath in full regency attire, bonnets and all)

I was bought an over-locker several years ago which I am still terrified off and may actually use in anger one day, once I've worked out how to rethread it properly.

I also have competing hobbies in that I knit, crochet, cross-stitch and have the occasional foray into cake decorating but I try to limit to two at one time: I am currently sewing (apart from more casual clothes) I am trying to work out what to wear for a Secret Cinema Bridgerton inspired event - which luckily has been moved to March from November and cross-stitching an Aimee Stewart Designed cross-stitch which at approx 700k stitches will keep me out of mischief for some time yet.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all better

Happy stitching All

Welcome!  You've definitely come to the right place. We'll also have you over in the Darkside soon.  That's where we keep the quilters. Many of us dabble in many different things.

We have different costuming opportunities here in the US. Years ago I was finishing the dress for an Italian noble for the Renaissance Pleasure Faire while we were heading up the highway to San Francisco. It's about a 4 hour drive to the location and I was still stitching as we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge.  Back then there was a very nice English restaurant in San Francisco called the Beefeater in a tourist part of town. My friends and I always descended upon it in full regalia after a day at the Faire.

Those sorts of activities are so much fun.
Hey Bill! Read the manual!  Hehehe.

Quilting isn't something I have tried (yet) I have dabbled a bit with patchwork - made a very unregimented fabric to make a crafter apron out of for my mum.

More importantly I need to know, on the Darkside - do you have cookies?

Yes. Lots of cookies. More cookies, biscuits, cakes, tarts and pies then you can imagine. We also have chocolate. All kinds of chocolate.  :cake:

A big welcome from me too @Helcat_42

We have a small section here, where the knitters and crocheters show their wares - just don't tell the Darksiders!

Look forward to seeing some of your projects!

Jessie, who is very happy to be here!!  :),  but who has far too many sewing machines to be healthy, and a fabric stash which is becoming embarrassing.

This is good to know.

I made a chocolate risotto at the weekend. note to self if you're going to grate chocolate get the rotary grater out otherwise you get messy, the kitchen gets messy ... still finding random bits of chocolate now.

I haven't crocheted or knitted for a while. In before-times when I wasn't working from home; I used to crochet on the train into London (and sometimes on the tube). I remember once when I was crocheting poppies I ended up giving a little girl one because she was so fascinated by what i was doing ...

@Helcat_42 welcome to TSP

You are free to wander in and out of the darkside, or any of the other specialist hiding places including knitting and embroidery, and remember that we are a nosey lot and like to see pictures of what you are making.
