Open ended zip for arthritic hands
« on: November 09, 2021, 14:27:53 PM »
I have been asked to replace an open end zip in a waxed coat (its not very  heavy fabric).
My friend really struggles with lining up the puller at the bottom of the zip due to her arthritic hands.
Can anyone recommend a make of zip?  (I've looked on Amazon but couldn't see anything particularly helpful.)
TIA

I'm wondering if a YKK #10 plastic jacket zipper would work. It's actually made to be heavy duty, but as its plastic the weight isn't bad at all. #10 means the teeth are 10mm wide thus requiring a wider, bulkier tab that should be easier to grasp. They also make a #8 (8mm). If the original zip is a "daintier" metal - due to the light weight fabric of the coat, the additional bulk of a plastic zip should help.

I always think plastic zips are easier than metal too.
And as much as I hate the stuff, sometimes you have to go down the Velcro route if things are really bad.
