Can anyone tell me what type of zip i would need if i was making a purse? Is it an open ended one or a closed one?

What type of purse are you planning to make, I've made cloth purses and pencil cases for children and I used continuous zipping on them as it avoids faffing around the ends of ordinary zips and gives a better finish.

You won’t need an open ended one for a purse.
If you are just getting a single zip buy one at least a couple of inches longer than you need, it makes construction so much easier.

It's a nice small project to do at the table and my lounge won't look like a fabric bomb has gone off

Diane, I’ve had a quick look at the video and think you could use a continuous zip or a longer zip las suggested by Ellabella.
Most habby suppliers sell continuous zips, I first used them for making zipped cushion covers.

I know it’s a bigger initial outlay but a length of continuous zipper can end up being much more economical than individual zips

In addition to the continuous zip you bought, if you're going to make other purses/pouches/bags you might like some of these
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MQVG4K3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&th=1
. I love to use co-ordinating or contrasting coloured zips and a bunch of these will do you for years. You're almost always fine with a longer size than specified in a patten - mine are 16" and decent quality.

@Vezelay
Can you just trim them if they are too long?

@Diane
Yes, zips can be shortened at either end, I just make sure that the engine cannot be pulled off by stitching over the teeth. I think I saw a YouTube video showing how to do it.

They other thing i need is some fusible interfacing, the one in the video is woven but does anyone have any recommendations, i need it for the purse so it needs some rigidity (i think)
