Seeking ideas for flamingo quilt
« on: December 28, 2021, 14:58:16 PM »
The big panel & smaller pieces came from one big piece I bought at the last quilt show I attended. I have laid them out on the bed just to get some ideas. I am not necessarily planning to arrange them as they are in the picture.

Of course, it needs sashing & a border.  I am hoping for some ideas about layout & colors. Thanks.

@Sara-S Do you want to make a large quilt incorporating the flamingo panel or are you thinking of a wall hanging with just a border or two around the panel?

I think the colour of your ( presumably) duvet cover goes well with the flamingo pink.
Life's too short for ironing.

I think I would make a series of blocks, just squares and rectangles in various arrangements, and sized to fit with the size of the panel, then play around with the arrangements of the blocks.  The piccie (pulled from Pinterest) shows a randon assortment of blocks.

Try the panel in the centre and try it on the thirds - a third of the way up/down and a third of the way from the left/right.

For colours; stick to what's in the panel but get as many different fabrics as you can.

I have a panel of The Kiss and, I think, The Tree of Life by Gustav Klimt which was a gift from Sakar (who lives in Austria) and have never known what to do with either  :rolleyes:

Oh yes you can!!  Just be prepared to take a bit out if it doesn't look right.  But, if you keep to the colours already in the panel it's really all down to how you arrange those colours.

So far I have determined that I want to use some pink jelly-roll strips & aqua (pre-cut) squares. The aqua will be the border.

I am going to use a design called  “Sidelights”.

 I have to order some jelly rolls, to get started. In the meanwhile, I did a little machine embroidery on the main panel. I gave the big flamingo a yo-yo to play with.
This is a reference to a sequence in “Fantasia 2000.” Here is a clip to explain it;
