Wall Hanging 2022 - NO LONGER
« on: January 01, 2022, 09:41:49 AM »
Well I’ve had my first visitor to the garden this morning, it was a crow stealing the monkey nuts that I’d put out for the squirrel. Will need to get some fabric for this one as I don’t possess any black/grey, will have a read up and see what their actual colour is.
This will be my first FPP block, a Crow  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Just had a Google and this is the colours that I need:

The crow is black all over, though in sunlight petrol-like blues and purples can be seen on the wing and nape feathers. Unlike the rook, the crow's beak is black or grey.

What a great idea for a wall hanging. Will the birds be determined by the first bird you see on the first of each month? I suspect black birds will be tricky to find fabric for. Maybe a bit of purple/ teal embroidery to echo the colours?

I'm looking forward to seeing how you progress with this @Diane
It's a lovely idea.  :) I think mine would be a couple of robins, three big fat pigeons and seven sparrows.  0_0

I think i'm going to be a bit selective with what i want on my wall hanging, i don't want pigeons or starlings really, i'm not going to limit it to just birds, might add some flowers along the way.

I have found some fabric on etsy but the delivery from the USA costs more than the fabric, i've searched google and can't find any of it in the UK.

Hoffman 1895H-4 Black Cotton Batik is what i'm after, i've added it in to my etsy basket to see if they send me an offer

I love this idea and will be following your progress. I have no suggestions for fabric unfortunately. Good luck in finding what you want.

I've ordered the fabric, it's exactly what i was looking for, i've got 18" x 44" so i'll be careful how i cut it as it will probably do the magpie as well.

"Monkey nuts"...are they the same as peanuts?

I love this idea @Diane and am keen to see it come along. I love the crows that come into my yard...I call them all "Duncan" as they all love dunking the bits of meat etc I put out for them into the birdbath! Interestingly, even though they are by far the largest birds that visit my backyard, they are easily bullied by the magpies and horrid little indian minors.

Monkey nuts are peanuts still in their shells, so they can be strung together.   :thumb:
