Rescue needed for button band mistake
« on: February 22, 2022, 22:37:13 PM »
Finished this cardigan for my granddaughter tonight by knitting the button band and sewing it all on, with the subdued lighting in the lounge.. Took it through to wash and realised I’d done the button band in cream! There is no way I’m unpicking it , as I’m sure I’d end up unravelling the knitting by mistake , so I thought I could maybe crochet cream edging elsewhere or embroider cream and pink flowers - the holes look a bit like leaves.
Any suggestions most welcome  :D

Which would take longest; unpicking the seam holding the band on or embroidering little flowers possibly 100 of them?

That’s true @BrendaP ,  but I would only do a few flowers on the front at the bottom and I sewed the band  on with back stitch which is a nightmare to unpick, without the risk of accidentally cutting through the knitting itself.

I think it looks lovely!  <3

It will show pretty white buttons off a treat.  You could embroider flowers just along the bottom edge of the cardi and the sleeves.

I think that a select number of flowers would look lovely, and the design is such that it would look absolutely intentional.   :thumb:
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

A few embroidered flowers would look lovely and bring it together.

I knit a cardi for my GD and agonised for ages as I ran out of wool just before doing the front bands, I eventually used the same colour as one of the stripes and just handed it over, nobody has ever commented and she has worn it loads of times.

Remember it a design feature

Your GD will not mind anyway.

I agree that a few flowers round the bottom edge would be a great design feature  :D

Looking better, I think. I crocheted a cream picot edging round the cuffs and then added a few flowers with cream centres.  I actually like it better now than when it was plain white

Ah yes, putting pinkin as well makes  big difference.   :loveit:

With just cream and white I would have said use pearly buttons, but now I think pink buttons would look best.
