@SewCanDad if you have an overlocker Simplicity 3696 is my go-to nightie pattern, but any plain tee-shirt pattern can be lengthened.  Just make a size or two bigger so that there's plenty of wiggle room.

Nope, never too old to learn! If you are logical and can do simple maths and draw a line you should be fine. Have a look on You Tube for some how to videos.
