Make me get on with it by providing inspiration
« on: April 17, 2022, 16:55:46 PM »
I'm making a quilt for a friend's 7Oth birthday in July. Because there's no hurry and because it's a pattern I've done before, I'm very slow in getting it completed. I need a shove to get it layered and bound.
I need to finish it before I can begin anything new.
I also need inspiration.....so....  Please show me pictures of your favourite quilt.....or, ideas for interesting colourways.....or, a pattern new to you.......or, some inspiring fabrics I might not usually choose.......or, anything that might get the adrenaline going
Please......no applique or fpp
Please friends....I need  you  :grouphug:

what sort of decor style does your friend have?

My SIL for example loves purple and has a guest room in lilac and mustard, quite modern. My BFF loves purple too, but hers is with blue and more floral.
My mum is really into duck egg blue and beige, but not really florals.
My OH loves whales and boats.

As a non quilter I saw this and thought
Ooooh not seen that before, you probably have but at least I am trying
quilt
As it neared the top of the grade, it went more slowly. However, it still kept saying, "I—think—I—can, I—think—I—can." It reached the top by drawing on bravery and then went on down the grade, congratulating itself by saying, "I thought I could,  I thought I could."

My latest quilt was washed and dried today so I’m trying to decide what to do next.

I’ve the pattern, but not yet the bsckground fabric for the Elizabeth Hartman Cats in Space quilt, so I might try the Senna quilt instead. I particularly like a monochrome version of it that I spotted on Instagram.

You know that I could not be of any help to you in this matter, @Lowena .  I have a sock on my needles.  I’m decreasing for the toes of the second sock.  It could be finished in minutes, but it has been sitting on my table for weeks.

I love that pattern, @Bumblebuncher .   Definitely on my To Do list.

@SewRuthieSews  I'm sorry for confusing you. My friend's quilt is almost finished, it's the next project I need help with.
@Pearl  I know you are a lost cause for finishing things  I need a stern word with your Mum or daughter  but what's on your "to do list" ??

How about something like this - in your favourite colour as well, but other colours could be used.

You could challenge yourself with a Pineapple quilt ... made easy by Anita Grossman Soloman ... as I did when I entered the Sew Red competition for The Eve Appeal one November

I was very pleased with myself when I finished this one and it was surprisingly easy with AGS's method

My red start quilt was quite easy to put together..

I also did a stained glass one similar to this...

Both easy to construct, but relying on colour contrasts

My suggestions are actually both very simple patterns, but I really liked how they turned out. The first is a crosshatch quilt made for my daughter’s wedding. The second is a disappearing nine patch- fun to make and I like how it looks like plaid. Had to take screen shots from my Pinterest board as I couldn’t work out how to download the images directly.
