Hello everyone.

I bought a cheap sewing machine from a charity shop to take in some t-shirts.
As I am a serial obsessive hobbyist I caught the bug and found myself an old (but immaculate) Frister and Rossmann Beaver 4 for the bargain price of £30 It even has all the accessories with it. It runs like a dream.
I've built up a nice little stash of sewing bits and now feel ready to make my own pair of jeans.

Well, maybe not. One step at a time :D

Time to get toileing I suppose.

Cheers

Welcome. I mainly inhabit the quilting and craft sections here, but you’ll find lots of people with knowledge of vintage machines and making clothes .
It won’t be long before you’re making those jeans. :D

@Adey1981 welcome to TSP

Jeans look complicated but when you break it down they are no more complicated than any other pair of trousers.  The main thing is that you need to be competant/accurate with the top sewing on the seams and pockets.  And if you want fancy stuff like rivets you will need the appropriate tools
Brenda.  My machines are: Corona, a 1953 Singer 201K-3, Caroline, a 1940 Singer 201K-3, Thirza, 1949 Singer 221K, Azilia, 1957 Singer 201K-MK2 and Vera, a Husqvarna 350 SewEasy about 20 years old. Also Bernina 1150 overlocker and Elna 444 Coverstitcher.

Hlo @Adey1981 welcome to TSP. My first machine was  Frister+Rosmann cub 4. It was a real little workhorse.
Willing but not always able :)

A big welcome from me too @Adey1981 !

Good luck with the machine - sounds like a bargain!  You'll soon be sewing jeans!

Jessie, who is very happy to be here!!  :),  but who has far too many sewing machines to be healthy, and a fabric stash which is becoming embarrassing.

Hello and welcome  :D
As it neared the top of the grade, it went more slowly. However, it still kept saying, "I—think—I—can, I—think—I—can." It reached the top by drawing on bravery and then went on down the grade, congratulating itself by saying, "I thought I could,  I thought I could."

Hi, nice to meet you. Nice find on the machine.
Jeans aren't as hard as you might think.  I made my first pair just over a year ago. I was super intimidated. But the pattern I bought had great clear instructions. My first pair needed a little adjusting, but easy enough and I still wear them now. They're my favourite pair of jeans.  You got this.

Hi, Adrian.

As others have said, jeans aren’t difficult. There is just a lot of work and you need to be methodical and precise. Thread theory have some excellent step by step photos to support their own patterns, on their website. (They’re actually better than closet core’s photos for their Ginger jeans that I recently worked on - and didn’t complete because I gained girth in the couple of months between cutting them out and getting stuck into them  :boohoo: )
Janome M50QDC - "Jane" - Small, cute and hard working. Pfaff Quilt Ambition 630 - "Pfanny" - Pfickle. Bernina L450 - "Bernie" - Very hungry. Bernina 830 Record - "Becky"
