Great tutorial for invisible zip finish
« on: August 01, 2017, 23:03:57 PM »
This is in this month's  Love Sewing magazine issue 42
It it's not a tutorial about inserting an invisible zip, but getting a really neat finish at the top of the zip.
It's by Clare Louise Hardie aka Thrifty Stitcher.
I read about the article on Instagram and bought the magazine. I used it on a recent dress and am delighted with the finish at the top of the zip, something I was previously disappointed with.

Thank you HMG, that can be a problem area.  (Don't ask how I know!)

Any idea how we could get it if we're not in the Uk?  :'( I'd be really interested in it.

I've just had a look at the blog and there's lots of advice on there. I couldn't wade through very page it's very useful for advice and the zip info may be somewhere on there. Thanks for the info HMG.

Just had a look.  This is the method I always use.  If anyone has a copy of Claire Shaeffer,s Complete Book of Sewing Shortcuts it is in there.  I think it is also in her High Fashion Sewing Secrets too. It,s a lovely method and leaves the top very flat.

Thanks for the link.  I am using a quite old version of Firefox - can't update - and this may have something to do with my not seeing the latest copy of Love Sewing.  issuu is an online publications repository and appears to cover every conceivable subject.  As well as magazines, it also contains books and Claire Shaeffer's Couture sewing techniques is amongst the collection.

Well I`m obviously not as clever as the rest of you as I`ve got the magazine and don`t understand the instructions at all!  In my defence I would say that the photos aren`t very clear.

Would I do better looking at Claire Shaeffers book?

(Perhaps I need more experience putting in invisible zips before I embark on this?)
