Cleaned and ready to go... almost, I've used my featherweight foot pedal for now and it stitches beautifully. I need to get some cams from Helen Howes as well as needles.
I've just read an interesting article on tinterweb about using a Riccar 806 bobbin which enables the use of normal needles... anyone got any other info?

Where did you read that? Be careful, because it looks like the needle hits the bobbin case and damage isn't to the bobbin itself. I'm sure someone here on TSP can confirm it, if you want to use regular needles, I think you have to have it adjusted for it; which I think is lifting the needle bar about two and a half millimeter.

This is the blog post...there's a link to the replacement case at the end of the post.

Seems there's no need to alter the timing or shorten anything.

That's some interesting stuff there Efemera. I do not have one of these machines as the needle supply problem has always put me off. This has just piqued my interest again. Thank you for posting that, really appreciate it.
Now looking on the bay of evil for a suitable modifiable candidate!

Apparenty someone out there has a stock of a modified version of the bobbin case. Cyndykitt on ebay. There is a bit of info on the 306, and it looks like you have to double check for the type of bobbin case it takes. It's all in the page you liked to, but the page isn't updated for active links. It's easy to get this confused, because the 316 takes regular 130 needles to begin with.

oh she is very lovely!

I might have a few spare flat cams coming up after a bit of a stock take later in the week (hoping to pick up my 319 soon :)

I'll have a read of your article too... our local OSG suggested something similar around bobbin cases.

Very interesting article!

Might reduce the cost of needles substantially!

I'm waiting for a Riccar 806 bobbin case which is supposed to fit and uses normal needles.
