Hello Boys and Girls...

I would like to introduce you to the first
Sewing Place Mystery Quilt......

There will be a series of 8 tutorials (with destructions)
over 8 months.

Tutorials 1 to 4 will concern the construction of the building blocks for your project,
whilst months 5 to 8 will focus on the assembly of the quilt.

This quilt can be made in the following sizes;

Crib              32"  sq
Wallhanging    48"  sq
Double           64"  sq
King               96"  sq

and fabric information and yardage for each of these will be available in the first tutorial

Sew along and post your pics as the mystery gradually reveals itself into a spectacular quilt.

This is a beautiful quilt with no tricky bits involved.
I have made it, it was a clear and simple make, and the result was simply beautiful!

Add some embellishments for a truly stunning wall hanging, or keep it plain to warm you through the nights,
you are sure to have something to treasure forever.

Depends on the size of the stash and your ambitions.. It may only stash dent, or even merely remove a few pebbles...

OK Ladies (and Germs)

I am going to kick the The Sewing Place's first ever Mystery Quilt off with your fabric requirements!

You can make this as

a Crib quilt (32" sq)
a wall-hanging (48" sq)
a double (64" sq) or
a King (96"sq)

You need 6 fabrics...... 1 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

No's 2 and 5 are your feature fabrics and need to harmonize together
No 1 is your background fabric
No's 3, 4 and 6 need to be grading darker (if you want a light background)
or lighter (if you want a dark background)

Here are the yardage requirements for each size.......

Crib.... 32" sq

Fabric 1          3/4 yard    (background)
Fabric 2          1/4 yard    (feature fabric)
Fabric 3          1/8 yard
Fabric 4          1/8 yard
Fabric 5          1/2 yard    (harmonizes with feature fabric)
Fabric 6          3/8 yard

Wall-Hanging....48" sq.

Fabric 1          1 1/2 yard    (background)
Fabric 2             5/8 yard    (feature fabric)
Fabric 3             1/4 yard
Fabric 4             1/4 yard
Fabric 5             1/2 yard    (harmonizes with feature fabric)
Fabric 6             1/2 yard

Double.... 64" sq.

Fabric 1          2 1/8 yard     (background)
Fabric 2             7/8 yard     (feature fabric)
Fabric 3             1/4 yard
Fabric 4             1/4 yard
Fabric 5             7/8 yard     (harmonizes with feature fabric)
Fabric 6             3/4 yard

King.... 96" sq.

Fabric 1          5 3/4 yard     (background)
Fabric 2          1 3/4 yard     (feature fabric)
Fabric 3             1/2 yard
Fabric 4             1/2 yard
Fabric 5          1 3/4 yard     (harmonizes with feature fabric)
Fabric 6          1 1/2 yard

Please make sure you have noted these measurements are in YARDS...and make adjustments for our metres!
(unless of course you are in the USA)

Hmm, food for thought here.  I'm planning to make a wall hanging and am thinking batiks and/or peacock colours, like those in the pic or maybe including cobalt blue.  I'll be shopping on Saturday at the Sewing for Pleasure show or at the Cotton Patch on Monday.  Any advice warmly received.

Nice colours....but that's just a computer generated thingmy right? not your actual fabrics??

Pull 2 and 5 out and lay them together..

These are the guys that are going to do the work, so I would make sure they go together well...
Maybe make 2 and 5 the ones with the most pattern or texture...

2 could be patterned and 5 could pick up on the colours in that pattern.
and no 6 needs to be dark (if you are having a light background) to really add some punch!

Top Tip ... use the colour dots on the selvage to help you choose colours that go with a feature fabric
(obviously not on batiks! )
