Ink Jet T.Shirt Transfer Paper
« on: September 17, 2017, 18:05:21 PM »
I've found some of this in a drawer, could be years old.
I've printed onto it, and pressed the image onto plain white cotton.
Now the resultant image is quite shiny, plasticky.
What I was wondering was, could I sew over the top of the image without gunking up my needle/machine?
Would this destroy the image by breaking up the 'surface tension', rendering it a crackled, bitty mess?
I was wondering if it could be the basis for a quilt?
Does it wash well? Have longevity?

Any input appreciated.

I've used it for a few tote bags, and it washes very well.  The biggest problem is ironing it - you really need to keep the paper backing so that it doesn't stick to anything when it gets hot.  I stupidly ironed it on the back (actually probably slightly less stupid than ironing it on the front...) but I was lucky enough to be able to peel it off the ironing board more or less successfully!

I'm not sure about sewing through it.  Have you got an old needle you can sacrifice?
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

Thanks for the ironing tip. I've already thrown the backing, but could probably use baking parchment.

I'll not get round to machining it til Thursday. Will make sure to pop in an old needle.

Thankyou.
