Block of the Month - October - Twisted Wreath
« on: October 01, 2017, 10:48:51 AM »
Well Ladies and Germs,

'Tis October and we can no longer deny that Christmas is coming,
so in preparation I have devised a stand alone BOM with which to Deck your Halls this year....

https://photos.app.goo.gl/sWuEg7Fxx3qfcAVE2

The technique can be applied to most anything,
at the end of the Tut are a couple of pics showing a Heart
that I twisted into a Valentines gift for Imself last year
and Im pretty sure it can be applied to Lettering too.

Have fun Everyone, I look forward to seeing the pics!

It looks complicated.  -<

I'll be ok until I get to the 'cutting at angles' part, but I'm definitely going to give it a try. I've found some greens and a red but I'm missing a suitable background fabric in my stash. I'll find something online to use for that.

I've had a couple of strange coincidences.

Yesterday, I found a lovely Christmas Dresden Plate wreath, which I kept for future reference on my Pinterest Quilt Ideas board...and today, you give us this ?!
Also, my friend visited yesterday and asked if I'd ever watched The Stepford Wives. I hadn't, but last night, by coincidence.... I spotted it was available to view on iplayer...so I've seen it now.

Hmmmm.....I wonder if these things come in threes?....my brother mentioned that the only hope for our family to make a large sum of money is by winning the lottery.  I'd better check my numbers!

Sandra.

Its really not complicated Sandra ...... just line up the template lines with seams on your top and cut a 3 1/2" square!

Looking forward to your pics, grab a background fabric and off you go...

and as I say, If I can do it ... you can do it ... really!

I have a template that I bought from crafty-uk at a show but having seen this, I wish I'd saved my money.

You make it look so easy!!!!!! Now I have to dig out the Christmas fabrics but I haven't got anything shiny so does this mean a trip to buy something?? I'm soooo tempted but I won't just buy that >:)

I'm excited to try this one and Christmas fabric is something I have a lot of (I don't have any red or green fabric).

When sewing the rows together, before using the template, is it best to press the seams open?

TIA

I pressed them to alternate sides so I could get Perfect Points, Pearl

but you do whatever you feel happiest with, there are an awful lot of seams at some points.

Thanks, Imi.  I did that within the rows (one row to the right, one to the left).  I just can't see what is going to happen after I've cut the twisty parts out.   :)

Oh, my!  I've just seen your finished work.  If mine is half as beautiful, I think I'll keep it up all year!

Well I went to sort out some fabric from the Christmas stash, I knew I didn't have any white bling BUT I don't have three different greens either - I've got two. I've got other greens like lime green and lighter ones so I feel a shopping trip coming on. Oh dear ;)

I went shopping for greens yesterday, Mali but I made the rookie error of not reading the whole pattern before I began.  I don't have any background fabric for the border.   I may have to go and finish August's BOM while I decide what to do.   :(
