Thanks to Fajita's lovely find, I have made the unicorn block...with a RAINBOW mane!  <3

There were 12 pages of instructions/pattern to print off and only one page needed a bit of sticky tape to join 2 sections together.
This gave a total of 34! sections.

Ooooh! Daunting... :S

There are separate instructions to make up the rainbow mane which can be found easily on the blog....robynie.com...sewing tutorials page 2.)
This will give you a chart of ( her) 13 colours with the corresponding sections....( such as G1, L2, L3 )... which will be filled with your chosen colour. I printed this off and cut it out.

This was essential!!  Once I'd decided my sequence of colours, I pinned the strips of paper to my fabrics. You can see this in the picture above.

It came together easily, although it looks such a muddled mess as you're going along, you wonder if, and hope it's going to turn out ok.

But it doesn't take long before you start to see good, encouraging progress.

Yep! That looks like a rainbow mane to me  :)

Oh my word Sandra, it really does look daunting. It's going to be fabulous when it's done though. <3

That's amazing! I didn't realise that sometimes you had to use paper pieces for quilting but, then again, I'm a complete beginner!

Thank you!

I've just pressed it, so it looks a bit more presentable.

A great pattern. Very happy with it. It went together well. LOTS of pieces, but keep yourself organised and it's fine. It's a bit off where I joined the top section onto the bottom...I ought to unpick and move it over a smidgen, but.....pah! Maybe another time.

I'm new to FPP...doesn't it make a mess afterwards?

Some of it made its way into the bin, but..... 0_0..well!  A lot of it didn't.

That looks really impressive, Sandra, well done (and, yes, bits of paper everywhere).

This is for FPP (foundation paper piecing), Sewbee.  I love this method as it's dead easy to get those sharp points.

That's fab, Sandra.  What are you going to do with it?

That is most impressive Sandra.  I like the choice of fabrics for the head - subtle but effective.
Life's too short for ironing.

So lovely! Glad you were inspired. It's on my list to try.
I found it by hard work and diligence  >< or maybe it was someone on my Facebook who made one lol

It is lovely.

That is gorgeous Sandra. I can't see anywhere that's a bit off. Don't tell anyone, they'll never know.  :D

I can't see anywhere that's a "bit off" either. Maybe the cat can see it - he/she looks suitably unimpressed - though I'm not sure why because it's lovely work.

The cat always looks annoyed....she's not like a proper cat.

I think it should be turned into a cushion...Oh! The unicorn NOT the cat....(...Hmmm...There's an idea.  If the cat were a cushion we wouldn't get bitten when we stroked her....)

I've been thinking how pretty the unicorn would look if it were made in soft pastel, 'sugar almond' colours.

That's lovely Sandra.
Sewbee, Sandra's unicorn is done by FPP, which, in my opinion, truly is the work of  It's a  specialised bit of P&Q and you don't need to be able to do it in the ordinary world  :D
Triumph of hope over experience :D

Absolutely beautiful Sandra!  I would love to be able to make something as lovely as that.

Jessie
Jessie, who is very happy to be here!!  :),  but who has far too many sewing machines to be healthy, and a fabric stash which is becoming embarrassing.

There has been mention of unicorns recently which has made me think I ought to show you this finished cushion cover. It was only done last week.

I did this one (slightly rushed) for my son's girlfriend as part of a gift for her 18th birthday. I debated whether she'd think it was home made rubbish or think it was just horrible, but she's a nice young lady and I believe she genuinely liked it. (It's just a cushion cover after all...she hasn't got to show it to anybody if she's embarrassed by it.)

It's a bit 'off' in places, and the lime green and yellow section irritates me a bit.

Iminei asked me if I'd be able/willing to do this item as a tutorial, but after much pondering, I'm afraid I just don't have it in me.
I was unable to figure out how to do a fabulous, clear tutorial as she does...I even asked my children for their help, but they were 'too busy'...This is a big thing with lots of bits, and I'm afraid I felt out of my depth to be able to clearly show and explain what I was doing.  :(
