The Necchi 565 - I love the mad angular style, the stark whiteness and Italian art look:

Anyone owned one or given one a go? I suspect they have some plastic in them which is a shame.

I had a Necchi many years ago - so long ago that I can't remember the model number, It was a very elegant shape and was made of metal. It had a big defect though -there was a fault (something to do with the cams?) that couldn't be put right. I had to part with it - very reluctantly.

I have never come across this model. I have seen a few Supernovas and BUs, and the later Lydia. A web site dates the 565 to 1962, is that before or current with the Lydias

I don't mind plastic gears too much, since some of my favorite models have them and they have prooven to be  tough and durable models (Bernina and Elna). I know Necchi Lydia has problems with a part in the bobbin winder and can have cracked cam tack, all plastic parts. The replacement parts are in plastic too, and I don't know if they are of better quality than the original.

I’ve heard Necchis are excellent especially the Italian made ones.

If I stumbled on one at a affordable price I would have a tough time not giving it a try:)

The 565 tho looks like architecture!

Well, many of us live in square shaped boxes, very modern but hardly ever above the average bog standard. All the Lydias were Italian made as far as I know and I think the 565 is too because of it's age. I have seen a few Japanese made Necchis on the web, but they aren't the same models as the Italian made ones.

Looking at online images for Necchi, the Lydia 3 is the nearest to the one I had, which was made in Italy. I was told the problem was a design fault.
