You've been fiddling about overlocking a sleeve into the armhole, cutting off your excess seam allowance - and you are using stretch crushed velvet that is a slippery sucker and curls up so you have a gazillion clips and the velvet has decided to ladder - grrrrr - and you get round to the beginning and only then realise that a thread has busted right back at the beginning and you've been sewing nothing! :S

I know that one! Arms are a real pain! If I haven’t cut 2 the same, I put one in round the wrong way or forget to turn it in the right way.... I don’t even sew a lot of arms but when I do :)

I hate it when that happens, same when a bobbin runs out on a tricky bit and you haven't noticed!

I define tricky bits as those that has me sticking out my tongue or biting my lip my school teacher used to shout 'JP you're supposed to cut and sew the material not lick and chew it!'

I would but I'm doing dry January!! This was a costume - or at least a prototype. I was doing it as a break from  some others - made 8 dresses last week so needed a change.

If I'm doing knits I always overlock the armscye in flat. After I clipped a hole in the top of sleeve on a dress trying to wedge it through the O/L. Flat is the way!

Yes that's what I generally do too. Don't know why I thought I knew better this time!
