Another welcome from a fellow newcomer here! Your Vulcan is lovely. I understand about the Rocketeer.  <3 I have my Grandmothers Singer 500 from 1961 per the manual. It was my go to machine for many, many years. Loved it when more recently I learned they now call them Rocketeer. Makes me want to get out my jet pack and take a spin around the neighborhood.
Hey Bill! Read the manual!  Hehehe.

Hi there Sewcycle and welcome from me too.

We always try to fit in one trip to Kent to visit some of those lovely gardens. This year we managed two with a day trip to Rochester in November to pick up a Bernina 1130 with a spot of Christmas shopping at Bluewater where I wanted to rescue all those poor sewing machines bolted down in the window display!  -<

There's one of those shops in Brighton! What a waste! I’m slowly visiting the cathedral cities so visited Rochester a couple of times recently - wonderful place!

Hi I'm Sewcycle from Kent. I'm interested mainly in garment sewing for myself. I really like Katherine and Marcy Tilton designs, but try to make things that are practical too, for my shorter than average self. I have done some quilting, and really a bit of most crafts. Hello to everyone  :)
Hello from Berks - just joined myself. Have only discovered Kent in the last couple of years. Some really interesting places.

Rochester is great for independent shops, the top two have to be Hometown which specialises in P&Q fabrics  :snip: and further along (towards Chatham) there's CCB which sells  :sew:
but for making :frock: and :trousers: there's zilch!
Brenda.  My machines are: Corona, a 1953 Singer 201K-3, Caroline, a 1940 Singer 201K-3, Thirza, 1949 Singer 221K, Azilia, 1957 Singer 201K-MK2 and Vera, a Husqvarna 350 SewEasy about 20 years old. Also Bernina 1150 overlocker and Elna 444 Coverstitcher.

Yes it's odd how the machines have somehow become decorative for shops and for cafes. Just so long as they are well looked after! Please shops, don't dump them when the fashion for sewing machine windows has passed!

Not much here in East Kent either though we do have C&H fabrics. I love going to FabricLand in Brighton.

If you count Whitstable as east rather than north there is Barchams for machines.

Hi and welcome from another Kent dweller. I’ve only lived here for 35 years though.

World of Sewing in Tunbridge Wells isn’t too bad for dressmaking fabrics, but better for P&Q, and excellent for machines. C&H used to be good for dressmaking fabrics, but I find it’s main stock is furnishing fabric.

I usually get my fabrics from Rosenberg’s (Stitch fabrics online) either at Hayes Village Hall (Kent)
or go to the warehouse in Wanstead.

My Mum's Singer looked nothing like the 500 though it must have dated from around this time. Sadly it's gone as she gave it away without telling me. I suppose she thought I had 2 and that was enough! :|

There are some really interesting places including Canterbury, but not many fabric shops. :S

I know Whitstable well. Barcham's not so much as I found them really expensive when I asked for a service quote but I suppose they are more of a meanders and I think they do the schools' sewing machine maintenance. There is the nice patchwork and fabric shop in Whitstable too, but I've forgotten it's name. It's a bit far out for me to get to now, but you have reminded me to make a visit there.

Thank you and hello. You're right, C&H have maximised their furnishing side and minimised their sewing. Unfortunately now I find their clothing fabrics rather expensive and of questionable quality. Even the remnants table is less exciting than it was.

Welcome Sewcycle from me too....love the avatar pic, I almost bought a similar item machine to have as a shelf display in my front room.... :D
I'm so much better at buying fabric, than  I am at using it up....
