I have the main pieces put together of my first item - the tunic that thinks it's a jacket. It fits well - so far so good - picture later.

The first Ava pattern is done. Shortened and shaped the sleeve, I don’t like a straight across the arm short sleeves so it’s now more of a shaped cap sleeve. Added a pocket.
Next is from this checked slightly taffeta poly, it’s a pale green shade. This one will be sleeveless with an added cowl neck

Here's my partially finished first take on Vogue 9212  (back and front)- the jacket pattern that I'm trying out as a tunic top for starters before proceeding to tweedy jackets. I've moved Bertha to a tidier marginally less untidy bit of my sewing room so you aren't distracted by the clutter. Unfortunately, the pattern is so busy you can't see any detail. I may have to take a pic of me wearing to when I'm finished.

I eased out the side seam on the centre fronts by quite a bit (to accommodate tum - ahem). This wasn't entirely clever as it made it quite difficult to fit the seam of the side front panels to the centre front pieces and I had to stretch them quite a bit to fit. Also, it has made the front, below the bust, a wee bit loose. Next time, I won't do this adjustment, I'll just add a tiny bit to all seams and that should be enough. It fits well across the shoulders and the back - hooray.

Now for the front facing, collar facing (both interfaced) and also a facing for the front 'skirt' bit (I'm not interfacing that bit). Collar and fronts have to be interfaced - not so sure about the front skirt. As this is a jacket pattern it has instructions for a full lining so a bit of imagination has to go into 'not' lining it. Will post a pic of the insides when I've done that.

Make a pleat?

With a pleat pinned in place it fits but I'm not sure of how it will look.  It might be a small box pleat stitched down to bust level, it might be a seam with the top 3-4 inches left open.  I'll have another fiddle and re-think this evening.

@DementedFairy: I have resorted to making a pleat when I couldn't get beastly sleeves to ease in no matter what.

I have basted a pleat into place and tried it on - it needs to go right down to waist level to look OK but I think that will be better than the seam with slashed top that I was thinking of.  Thank you DF for the suggestion

It will also make it easier to alter the depth of the neckline which is currently too high for a cotton summer dress.  I have some nice red buttons which might be sewn over the seam to disguise the break in the printed pattern.

I get over sleeve cap ease by removing it. I work out how much excess there is going to be and judge how much can go. I once had a sleeve for a cotton blouse with 10cm of ease. It was ridiculous. It's different on a nice wool coat but on a cotton blouse?! I reduced it to 2cm and the sleeve looked fine!

New look 6067.

I am fed up with this now.  Have done the zip five times and it will need a sixth.  I stretched the zip, took the dress apart after I had got it right and then managed to get the dress twisted on the last attempt.  Now I am not happy with my pattern matching.

I took an inch off the bodice as it was too long waisted and made the neckline an inch lower all around and it is still quite high.  Not helped by having to take in the shoulders.

The sleeve I re-drafted semi successfully.  It has three pleats on either side but they are not big enough to drape as they were supposed to.   it is is a good solution to my muscular upper arms as I have full movement wearing it which usually i struggle to achieve.

I am pleased that the pattern matching a he front is good enough not to annoy me.

But i have mangled the neckline with all the fiddling I have done so need to unlock and cut a new facing.

But not for a  while.  I am tired of this one.
