One Pattern Three Ways - TSP's first competition in 2018

You have voted, so here it is - TSP's first competition of 2018: One Pattern Three Ways

Start: 15.02.2018 as soon as you wake up
End:   31.03.2018 midnight UK time

The competition is open to all members.

Rules:
1. You can prepare, make muslins, fit the pattern, choose the fabric, etc. before the official start.

2. One pattern three ways doesn't mean making 3 views from the pattern envelope. You should actively modify the pattern to ensure your three garments look distinctively different from each other. think about amendments such as:
- different collars
- changing sleeve shapes/lengths/etc.
- pivot darts to create princess seams, pleats or gathering
- turn a blouse pattern into a shirt dress
- play with seam lines
- be adventurous with colour blocking, hem shapes, pockets, closures....

3. Sewing starts on February 15th and ends on March 31st

4. You can enter your garments in the next competition as well as part of your signature collection. It would be unrealistic not to do so, and most of us have busy lives where finding time to se is not easy. The aim of this challenge is to create TNT patterns you can use again and again in the future.

5. You have to enter 3 garments, however, they don't need to work together as a collection/combo.

6. Use this thread to document your progress and ask questions. I'll edit this post frequently to reply to any question you have - that way the answers will be all in one place.

7. Please be patient with me  :)  I do this for the first time, and will probably only able to logon once a day when my second Teaching Practice module starts on February 5th.

8. Hmm, there may or may not be a price - need to put my thinking cap on. I hope our lovely admin can come up with a badge for the winner.

I am really looking forward to this  :loveit:

Question 1:
Can I just check it says sewing starts on 15th feb does that mean we can cut out as well as the other prep listed please?
Answer: Yes, you can. All planning and preparation including cutting can be done before the start.

Tentatively up for this one.  I haven't had much success with SAL's - I'm easily sidetracked  ;)

I'll give it a go, and see how far I can get.

Jessie
Jessie, who is very happy to be here!!  :),  but who has far too many sewing machines to be healthy, and a fabric stash which is becoming embarrassing.

Good timing - I want to make some wardrobe gap fillers of some functional everyday wear but with interesting details and colour.
My pattern will be a basic long T-shirt/Tunic pattern that I'll use to make 3 different tunic tops from various knit fabrics that appeared in the stash.
This is a mood board where I've started to gather some ideas - and already there are some common themes showing through.

Ooooh I love the idea of this!

I might give it a try. I really need to get on with my SWAP sew though and not sure I'll have time, especially as I'm not sure I can see whether any of the things I make for that will work 3 ways. Possibly the t-shirt.

Love the details on your mood board, particularly the large collars.

I have decided to use McCalls 7084

I have definite ideas about what I'm going to do for two of the three, still undecided about the third option.  Then I started looking at fabrics and guess what  - my fingers slipped and there are now two lengths of fabric on their way to me.  One is red and white stripes, the others a flamingo bird print.

There are some nice ideas on Morgan's mood board - which led me to browse the Joe Browns website and I'm now trying to think of ways to incorprate several different fabrics into one dress - or will it be a shirt?

@BrendaP , Here's an example of Plain with patterned and colour details or how about patterned fabric with plain contrast trims?  Like the idea of View C with the cap sleeves as a blouse with the skirt adapted to the high hip line with splits at the side trimmed with the contrast.  Whaddayathink?

Oh and might you consider playing with some collar ideas and variations?  There are lots of interesting ideas around.
