Two lengths of fabric arrived today.

This, which is a lovely sateen finish shirting to make McCalls 7084, view D, more or less as the pattern shows although I'll probably do the shorter  view B sleeves  and this which will make a summer dress that should look very different in design and fabric from the first one.

I'm still dithering considering what to use for the shirt version using that pattern.

Oh flamingoes!  I just adore flamingoes, Brenda pretty please we see the finished product.  I’ve just bought a flamingo lamp.  And duvet cover.

I am not sure this will be the sew along for me.  I am grateful for the ideas Manuela and Fran, and see where you are coming from.  The chief executive from HQ suggested making a kind of blouson jacket from the western shirt pattern, but then I have exactly the pattern for one of those that I am happy with so I can’t really see the point - for me - of fiddling with patterns when I could be sewing.  But i shall be on the sidelines cheering everyone on and taking a great interest.  I am definitely going to enter at least one this year.

You'll have to be patient;  :S  as I'm not allowed to cut out for another couple of weeks, and the chances are I'll do the striped dress before drastically fiddling with the pattern.

You are allowed to cut (see first post with answered questions)  :)
I think being allowed to cut is reasonable, sometimes one is short of fabric and needs to get some more, at other times one might make a mistake resulting in getting some more fabric, or buying new material.
When you match patterns/stripes/plaids you have to plan cutting out carefully - that takes time.

So I can cut out in advance   0_0.

Both pieces of fabric have beenpre-washed and ironed, so waiting to go.  I'm out all day today, but might make a start tomorrow.

McCalls 7084 lovely pattern Brenda, how I wish I could wear waisted dresses, how I wish I had a waist :'(
I keep dipping into this thread and still pondering, I have had a big parcel of fabric delivered today from The Textile Centre and lots of new patterns, just waiting for the inspiration to arrive.
It's not easy being this perfekt

I would have said I would have been up for a complete beginner's course in clothes making.... until I cut out the 2 pattern pieces and 2 eyes for my soft toy.....never again I couldn't be bothered with the folding to get the pattern on the grain, the flimsy paper, the impenetrable instructions............and that was for a toy with 2 main pieces  :D :D
You have my admiration, but I'm off to the shops tomorrow for a couple of holiday bits... and I guarantee they'll fit me better than anything I could ever make  :|
I will however follow the progress of the clothes comps ( just as I used to watch GBSB ) and thank heavens that I'm into straightforward p&q  :D
Triumph of hope over experience :D

I've cut out my striped fabric - which will be more or less view D of McCalls 7084, and I pinned the eleven skirt sections together - without the pattern pieces attached it would have been very difficult to identify each piece and get it into the correct position and I need the pattern pieces to modify for the second version with the flamingos.

I had another finger slippage moment today and  some silver grey shirting fabric for the third version slipped into the shopping cart along with a metre of plain red for trims on version 2.  I probably only need a quarter metre at most, but 1m was the minimum order and it looks to be a nice fine cotton, nicer than regular P&Q stuff.

Oh Brenda, I've never heard of ClothSpot before.

There are some rather fine fabrics and it's nice to see a site that sells in fractions of a metre.

Aww don't think I'm going to have time to fully participate in this.  I'm in the mists of sorting my craft cupboard, then I've got to sort the bedroom ready for decorating and as I'm such a procrastinator I'll only have time for sewing or decorating the bedroom.
Unfortunately the bedroom has to take priority as I worked out the other day it been 13/14 years since it was last decorated  :| :| and it desperately needs doing.
