Fabric help

I have made some mug mats using some fat quaters which I washed yesterday and they have shrunk .made some with poly cotton left over from dress, and they have stayed the same size. As I am going to be doing a king size quilt for daugther I dont want it to lose size  when its washed.

If you are concerned about shrinkage pre wash all the fabric.

Alternatively you could make up the quilt top and wash that before putting the quilt sandwich together.

I always wash every piece of fabric before using. I don't want shrinkage or colour run after weeks or months of hard work.  :)

I never wash anything, but if you wash a completed quilt it will pucker a bit, giving it a pleasantly aged look ( apparently ) Polycotton won't shrink, but polycotton is not ideal for P and q and certainly shouldn't be used as a mixture with 100% cotton fabrics.

Why not?

I agree that 100% cotton is nicest to work with and generally cotton is more comfortable than poly-cotton, but a few poly-cotton patches scattered around in a mostly 100% cotton quilt won't do any harm, especially if the wadding is 80/20 or even all polyester.
