Adamley silk sale 24th February, Langley nr Macclesfield

Adamley silk printers in Langley near Macclesfield are having a silk sale from 10-1 on Saturday, 24th February, 2018. https://en-gb.facebook.com/adamley.fabric

Langley is a village about 2.5 miles from Macclesfield. There are loads of trains to Macclesfield from Manchester and Stoke and beyond and from there it's a bus or taxi ride. I think there may be an infrequent bus service from Macc, so you can probably get there by public transport but it's not easy. There's limited parking at the Adamley mill.  If you do go it's worth getting there early. I've had lots of great pieces of silk from their sales over the years - see my winter glitz outfit!

@UttaRetch  I just let satan take me by the hand and guide me to the fabric..... It's a long way from you so I don't think it's really a temptation.

Well. Have just got back from Adamley with my haul. See below. Went with DH who was chauffeur and 2 friends. We got there at 9.30 and the doors were already open and silk flying off the shelves. There were some very interesting jacquards this time. I got a roll of tartan jacquard for £20. It says either interesting curtains and/or a bucket coat as discussed elsewhere on TSP. Silk frays like crazy so much overlocking will be required.

Afterwards we went to Shufflebothams in Macc where 2 of us acquired some interesting tartan fabric!

My domestic credit is now in deficit so have agreed to do some tidying this afternoon.  :'(

Love the look of the fabric in the bottom right of the picture and it would be lovely made into the bucket coat.

Alas that piece is only half a metre. If the bucket coat ever happens it will be with the fabric on the roll - nicer IRL than I've managed to capture in the photo!

I went with two friends at got there shortly after 10am only to find very little left. Apparently they had opened up over an hour earlier due to the queues. I went along mainly as a roll holder and did my job well. I came back with just one pocket square as there was nothing that really caught my eye.

We stoped at Ikea on the way back, so there was a very surprised look when I walked in the door with a folding chair rather than bags of silk.

We must have walked past each other then @StitchinTime then. I was the wild looking woman in the purple tweed coat. In the summer sales before now they have made us wait outside until 10 but I guess they didn't want to do that on a freezing day. Although the best of the patternwd rolls went quickly there were stiil.a lot of fill a bag pieces and all that jacquard was new to me . Will just have to work out what to do with it. If you are in Macc again it is worth visiting Shufflebothams and the Fent Shop.

@Tamnymore It certainly wasn’t the weather to be waiting outside today. I will remember  Shufflebothams and the fent shop for future trips.

I still have a bag of pieces that I filled at a previous sale, so I was hoping for some dress lengths this time. By the time we got there, the rolls that were left were ideal if you needed to make a blazer for a regatta. We spoke to the guy at the till and he said they didn’t have that much stock for this sale and the jacquard silks were from another producer.

Anyway, it was a good day out with friends and my stash storage will probably thank me for coming back nearly empty handed.

Aah I wondered where the jacquards had come from as Adamley couldn't have printed them. Yes we thoughr a few of them were ideal for blazers if you wanted to do a spot of punting. The other rolls left were mainly twills with small patterns. probably tie twills. I do have a few of these for linings but there's only so much yiu can use. I'm still working my way through one of these bought at my first visit to an Adamley sale probably 10 years ago.

The name had escaped me last night, but the jacquard silks were from Vanners.

Thanks @StitchinTime . Always good to know the provenance of fabrics. My eyes lit up at the thought of another factory shop but it's Suffolk which is a long way from me, alas. And, talking of shops,  if you do visit Shufflebothams next time you are in the area look out for a nice little collection of tartans @ £7 pm (according to my burn test probs a wool mix but fabric feels nice and soft). The saleslady in Shuffs said they were from Elkins who are closing in Macc. I looked up Elkins and I see they are a firm of skirt manufacturers who specialise in school and work uniforms and are expert pleaters. A shame that another part of our dwindling textile industry is going.
