Backing decision help needed
« on: March 08, 2018, 17:50:39 PM »
Last night I finished my quilt top for a FMQ practice quilt-along, but I can't decide on a backing. None of the possibilities in my stash thrill me. It will ultimately go to a children's hospital, so I still want it to look nice. Please help me decide!

Here's the completed top.

And here's my options.

The yellow looks good with the print, but I don't like it against the blue quilt top. It's also a rather poor quality fabric, having begun its life as a cheap, coarse woven sheet.

I like the beige with the other fabrics, but can't see it as a good choice in a hospital setting- too many possibilities for staining.

The lighter dark blue looks nice, but it's a microfiber sheet, and I HATE microfiber- to work with or as bedding.

The darkest blue has no real issues, I just think it's TOO dark, and don't like the look as much.

Any of these is also a candidate as a binding with one of the others as backing.

What would you choose??

Same here - yellow.   :)
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

I liked the cream when I first looked at the picture but immediately thought that wouldn't be a good color in the hospital setting.  Then I read yellow, yellow, yellow and went and looked at it some more. It kind of grew on me and now I agree that the yellow would probably be your best bet.  The darker  colors seem too overwhelming for your top.

Yellow for the backing and the dark blue for binding.

By the way: very nice pattern! :)

Thank you all for the input! It was much more helpful than the "likes", but no comments!, that  I received when I asked the same question on a facebook quilting group. I decided to take the advice and went with the yellow backing and will use the navy for the binding. I'm doing the stitching in navy also. Here's the results so far.
