Backing with fleece

Backing with fleece

I have only used Ikea Polarvide fleece to back quilts but wonder if this polyester one from Dunelm would be suitable for, say, a quilt for Project Linus.   ;)

(Is fleece always polyester?)

They are both polyester fleece so if oneis suitable the other should be too.

I've only used fleece (bought by the metre) as a backing once, and the resulting quilt is heavier than it would have been with regular wadding and cotton backing.

I've used polyester fleece for Linus quilts before now, and the one I'm currently doing will be backed with a fleece throw from The Range.

I buy cheap throws from the cheap shops ( B&M, Home Bargains, The Range etc ) they are big enough for Linus quilts and Linus like fleece backs apparently

I was just having a look at them @Lowena.  Home Bargains has one direction fleece.  Fleece that goes in one direction?, I thought.  No it was this.  https://www.homebargains.co.uk/products/7662-one-direction-fleece-blanket.aspx
Maybe not!

I think that fleece would make a super soft backing - but - I think it will be very stretchy and very slippery to sew!!

I've just watched a video in which the fleece was stabilised.  If I was going to do that, I may as well use wadding and backing fabric.

I’ve backed several quilts with fleece and have never bothered with a stabiliser. With fleece you don’t have to worry about quilting distances and the quilting can be quite sparse. The only thing is that is doesn’t shrink so after washing you can end up with a slightly puffy effect on the back.

I would expect ordinary polartec-type fleece to be easy to quilt, but I think the one Pearl is looking at is one of those with a longer velvety pile which could fight back!

I don't do anything to the fleece, just minimal quilting.

Yes, that's what I thought, @Bodgeitandscarper .  I've found a gorgeous one on Zazzle.  Unfortunately it costs £24, p+p another £20.

Minimal quilting sounds good, @LowenaIt's all I'll have time for.
