Any recommendations for a denim jacket pattern?
« on: March 12, 2018, 10:46:06 AM »
Hello,

I would like to make myself a Denim jacket for this summer. Do you have any pattern recommendations?

Also what weight denim would you use?

Any help will be appreciated! :D

Denim weight is a tough thing to figure out but for a jacket I would think quite light, because you want maximum movement around your elbows and such. Haven't got any particular pattern recommendations but I know there are plenty out there.

There's a Burdastyle Sewalong/Sweepstakes with Free biker jackets in two size ranges that is still going on...

Another Burdastyle option would be 02-2010-109

Style Arc's Stacie jacket is good.

As far as weight, 9-12 oz, Sanforized with no lycra or stretch is what I would look for.  9 oz is a good light weight, and you want to keep it lighter for the summer, and up to 12 depending on how much structure feel you want.  No stretch because it's a jean jacket and Sanforized keeps it from shrinking.

Now me?  I'd use selvedge edge denim 12 or 13.5 oz, unSanforized.  Because I am a snob, lol.

Is it a jean jacket that you are looking for? Lots of different jacket styles look good in denim.

As to the weight, it depends on how warm you need your jacket to be.

I love my Style Arc Stacie too- even though I never got round to putting buttons on it, I still wear it as a cardigan!
C'est moi!

Hi,

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice! Yes it is the more traditional denim jacket or jeans jacket that I am interested in making. I do like the look of the Stacie style arc, and I have never used their patterns before.

@UttaRetch Yeah, based on my personal experience of both paid and free videos, Craftsy is far better on all fronts (even if some classes are hit or miss).

Burdastyle Academy isn't there yet...

Yet another vote for the StyleArc Stacie, if you’re thinking of a jean style denim jacket. :) Looks nice in fabrics other than denim too — just finished putting snaps on a rose and cream colored toile version.
