Thanks Arrow and BrendaP. I'll order bobbins and oil from Helen Howes today.

The wiring has been replaced at some time in the past.  Hubby will check it out when he's got time. He listed all the stuff to look out for last night but is too busy with work to start. He's very thorough and particular, surprised me with how much he remembered/knew about his mum's handcrank. Turns out that's a 99 too.

I'm not in a rush to blow things up or start fires. I'll give him a week or two then take it to local shop for their guy to look at. Shop guy got my other grans 50/60's clone hand crank working but it had suffered a bash in the past and the body cracked under the pressure. Not going to happen with a cast singer!
