Fabric shopping in Newcastle upon Tyne and the surrounding area

SeeDesignMake

Here is my new blog post on where I go fabric shopping in Newcastle upon Tyne. Do you tend to buy fabric in a shop or online?

Thank you for those addresses, I've made a note of them and will have a trip down to investigate soon.

I should add that I tend to buy online, just because I live about an hour's drive from shops with any big choice of fabrics, but online has it's drawbacks. It's much better to see and handle fabric before choosing, if possible. I've had some great bargains online and some big disappointments too.

I’ve not found anything I’m impressed with in the North East...I take a trip over to Burnley or down to Dewsbury.

Fabworks is in Dewsbury. It's a fabulous fabric shop!  0_0

@Efemera, well if he won't take me to Manchester I need a plot to con him into Dewsbury, although he might be doing some grumbling if he see's the fabric I've got coming in the post

Although one sometimes (often in my case  ) gets some serendipitous finds in the remnant bins at Abakhan I'd say that Fabworks is overall a better fabric shop for fabrics by the metre and it sounds as though it would be nearer for you @Surest1tch . Also if you are in Dewsbury on a Wednesday or Saturday morning there's also Lucky Fashions. I've only been there once and I presume they are still going.

Good idea @Efemera. But if you are coming by train there are some decent cafes in the town (I think the one I've been to most recently was called Cloggs ??) and one of those independent bars at the station where you could probably get something to eat.

When I get somewhere there's decent fabrics I'd go stupid and there'd be no way I'd be able to carry it on public transport, but if I tell him we could go to the pub for something to eat.  Hmmmm, plots a forming

It's amazing how much fabric you can carry when you have to @Surest1tch . The pub on the station platform is one of those real ale places so syrely worth a visit.
