It has a special form of free-motion sewing where the amount of pressure you apply on the foot pedal determines how wide the stitch is (basically a satin stitch/zigzag depending on how fast you move the fabric). I think with practice that's going to be great fun. I'm very glad to discover that you can also set the stitch width to zero for free-motion quilting though!
It will also stitch up to 12 layers of denim, which wasn't something I was looking for, but sounded like a great thing!
Fran also pointed out to me that it tacks in a way other machines don't, and that's brilliant.
To be completely honest, though, I was looking to see if there was a cheap machine with a large harp space for quilting. There isn't. This has a respectable one, but it's only on the higher side of normal.
