Here we go. I think I prefer ones that tell me what size bits I need. Got confused a few times in adding the triangle bits and had to unpick as they didn't cover enough after sewing but looked like they would (to me) before.

Used two colours as I had planned to do 4 colours but didn't have big enough bits or the other two, only found out through trying.

Edited to add paper not removed yet. Will do that later when catching up with Holby City.

Well, it would be rude not to ....

Here is my effort and I'm afraid to say I made every mistake in the book!

Mistake 1:-
Firstly after printing out the pattern, I complied with the colour 1 colour 2 for the first two halves only to realise that it wouldn't work at all   >< (Was the template designed for a two, not eight, colour card trick  ??)

Mistake 2:-
and of course that first two halves I sewed, wrongly, used the dark blue batik which I only just had enough of, so some unpicking and resewing was required ! (rolling eyes smilie)

When I figured out that each half block had three different colours in I laid out the papers and working my way round the block labeled each segment with its colour and each half block with the same number of its other half ...
Belt and braces me!

Mistake 3:-
My next mistake was setting my stitch length too small, the paper was literally falling out as I sewed.
I reset the length to 1.5, that seemed better.

and so I zoomed along .....

@Bogwoppit  I found a 2 1/2" strip was ample for the borders and cut 6 1/2" squares for the colours ... again ample and if I wanted to reduce waste I would experiment with that size .. I think 5 - 5 1/2" square would do it ... but don't know for sure.

I also found if you placed your fabric to be sewn on top of the previous fabric, pinned along the stitching line and then flipped the fabric over you could see whether it would cover the area needed. Remember to remove the pins before you actually sew along the line tho'!

Mistake 3:-
By the time I reached the last two halves, looking at the beautifully trimmed blocks laid out in front of me I began to worry that the template had not included an outer seam allowance as the points looked scarily near the edge to me, but I forged ahead.

Mistake 4:-
The first two blocks I sewed together I sewed wrong!

Mistake 5:-
12 1/2" unfinished my arse!

Now that could just be my dodgy 1/4" seam but I so, so, so wish I hadn't trimmed the blocks as I went.
I have squared down to about 12 and a somethingth and if it was to be used the points would definitely be off, off and away but I might yet applique it  onto a background and use it like that.

Please don't inspect the points to closely ... I've discovered I'm rubbish at sewing along a line!

Its a lovely block, Thank you Pearl, but do practice first with fabrics of no importance !!

I tried it this afternoon and made a complete b******s of it. Made a similar mistake to Iminei's first one but didn't realise until near the end and refused to unpick it all. Such tiny stitches!. I tried laying the papers out but couldn't visualise the colour placement at all. I'm easily confused and got no kids here so no crayons. Of course it would have been better to keep the computer on at Pearl's destructions somewhere near the sewing machine, but I didn't do it. Anyway, I'll have another go sometime but in the meantime, here's the wreck I made.  :(

PS I hate the fabrics as well!

Love your background fabric, Supergran.

That's why I did the colouring in.
