will be going to quilt shop next week sometime if I get a couple of metres of each colour will that be enough ?
I see eight or nine different fabrics in the quilt in the photo.
To make an 80" x 80" quilt with the 8.5" x 4.5" cut bricks (8" x 4" sewn) you will need 20 rows of 10 bricks. That's 200 bricks (a few will be 4.5" x 4.5" cut)
A fat quarter will yield eight of those bricks so 25 FQs would be needed.
but if you buy fabric cut from the bolt you might get five across the width, definitely four and a half, but you will need about 20 halfs so that's not a problem.
A long quarter (1/4 metre cut from the bolt) will yield 8 bricks + 2 halves = 9 bricks.
200 ÷ 9 = 22.2 long quarters - round up to 23 long quarters.
If you want fewer different fabrics you could say 12 x half metres or 6 x one metre, though I am firmly of the opinion that the more different fabrics in a quilt like that, the better it will be, though if you are going for stripes and checks you might be a bit restricted for choice.
Plus the extras for binding and backing
