I have an 18" x 6" ruler which I find a bit more convenient sometimes instead of the 24" x 6" one for cutting pieces.  A 12" x 2" or 12" x 4" would be useful too.

However, you might prefer to get one of the big square rulers which can be used for squaring up blocks, and in that case the bigger the better.

I made do for years with a 3” by 18” ruler and a 6.5” square one.
I recently bought a 9.5” square one as I was making bigger blocks and thought it would be quicker. Square ones are useful for sizing and squaring blocks and also have the angles for making half square and quarter square triangles.

I got a 6 x 12 one this year or late last year from a girl off here (sorry cant remember whom) and find it invaluable ...

I would heartily recommend it.
