Cheap cutting boards

If I'm to get on with binding armholes and neckholes, I need to be able to cut the strips easily.  I'm currently using a cutting ruler with a built in cutter (I'm sure they have a name, but it escapes me at the moment!),  but it's only 24" long and my mat is also a bit small.
I'm looking to get an A1 size mat, but some are horrendously expensive, will a cheaper one do?  And are there longer built-in-cutter-ruler-thingies available?  I'm really rubbish with a rotary cutter, I can veer off and up and over a ruler really easily

I've had this mat for 3 years and am very happy with it.  I think £24 is a fairly good price (although I paid less than £17).

A foldable cutting mat? Nice idea

Funnily enough, I've just returned from Wolvo where I saw a cheap A2 cutting mat for £8, and a dinky little A4 one for £3. This was in The Works.

I was tempted to buy the larger one but I didn't fancy carrying it home.

A cutting mat is on my list to buy at the quilt show.
Does anyone already use a folding one?  Does the fold interfere with the cut?

I did wonder about the fold, but mine should arrive tomorrow, so I'll report back

I use slotted rulers for slicing up binding (and other jobs).


For longer lengths you concertina fold the fabric, lay the ruler on top and cut the widths that you want.


The ones I have are -


A small one for odd bits here and there
and
A larger one (June Taylor Shape Cut) for strips, squares, other jobs and so on.

Don’t fold more than once for the coverstitch... it’s quite particular about the width of the binding and cutting through lots of folds  doesn’t guarantee a straight binding.

The cutting mat has arrived - and it seems to cut perfectly ok across the join/fold, @Fajita, I tried it going across at 90° and it more of a diagonal, and didn't even feel the join.

Been using it this morning and just love how it makes everything so easy and accurate.
I got some of those little stick on gripper circles to help stop things slipping.
