Anybody up for a non-competitive coat-along?

Me and @Ravingdoll considered this a while back and I'd like to have a go. @UttaRetch come on ;)

I originally wanted to sew a Vogue pattern but part of SWAKOP is a blue coat that I have the fabric for so I'm going to do that first (and watch RD's make to see if I can get some tips and advice!)

No hard and fast rules. Just sew coats together. Start from whenever and carry on until... end of the year maybe? Plenty of time (though I hope some of us would get coats done quicker).

Would a Moto jacket count?

I might!  I'd like to make another coat, although I did make two that I love last year, so it might be a bit of an extravagance.  (Did I say that as though it was a bad thing?!?)
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

That sounds like a coat!

Plus this is more loose than the competitive ones, very few rules. Dog coats count too  0_0

Wasn't one of yours an outdoorsy type jacket? What was the other one? What about a nice fancy wool coat in a neutral colour. It'll never go out of style then.

The other was a pink and black wool mix with a gorgeous black satiny lining.  Duffle-coaty but without toggles.  This is it:

With the other being bright red a neutral one would be a very good idea.  I'm really bad at buying neutral fabric though.  I go to look for it, then something catches my eye and I think 'ooh pretty' and I'm gone.

Dark blue or black would be very useful though.  With the two I have I can clash with just about everything in my wardrobe.

I'm still trying to decide exactly which coat pattern to use.

This is my fabric. A totally gorgeous blue wool that I coveted for years and eventually bought. It has woven-in stripes that graduate in colour from one solid to another. Really different and interesting.

For the lining I have some gunmetal grey silk charmeuse, so it'd be a really luxury coat.

I think I want to use Lekala as I've sewn coats using Lekala patterns a few times and it's always so easy. Due to the stripes I think the coat needs to be fairly straight and with few seams.

Some inspiration. I'm not sure what to do about a belt. Whether I go with a tie belt (my current black wool coat I take the belt and tie it in a knot in the middle rather than do up the plastic clasp), or do I do a belt like in the inspiration pic across the back only to keep the lines clean.

I made a dog coat once. I cut the sleeve from a fluorescent jacket.  Opened up the seam.  It was shaped beautifully to go over the dog. Top of the arm over the back of dogs neck. Couple of straps fastened with Velcro. Waterproof and visible in the dark.

Hmmm, I might tag along with either a sleeveless trench coat or a cape...

I have one winter coat, black (funerals for the attending of)
My usual winter wear is a padded coat with hood.
I have a (long) list of things to make

Er, what is the pattern for the last coat Francesca - the one with the unusual collar?

That's the one that RD was considering making which I definitely want to make but doesn't fit with my SWAKOP theme, which is blue (the fabric was green). I will make it though! For definite.

Mmm, I might be tempted to make the Lisette B6423 coat that was mentioned on TSP a while ago. I bought the pattern and then the summer intervened. The trouble is I do have one good quality wool winter coat I got from BHS about 6 years ago and an older black wool 3/4 length coat which I wear to go to the swimming pool on cold winter mornings. I could make the Lisette in a lighter weight fabric for Spring I suppose.
Still learning

I might be persuaded to join in :)  I've made a start already though, hope that's OK.  I'm doing a Burda coat from 2012, it's a cocoon shape in navy melton.  I've only got as far as fusing on the interfacings and sewing one seam and the side pockets though.  Not much more will be done now until October as I'm away for most of September.

I bought an M&S herringbone wool coat last year but although it was allegedly wool, I froze in it.   Hopefully this one will be warmer.

I love that pattern with the unusual neckline, @Francesca

Nice coat, @Acorn !  Just my kind of colour scheme....  I have a pile of magenta boiled wool that I need to turn into something warm and coat-ey too ......

I need another coat like I need a hole in the head (made 3 last winter). BUT I did buy some purple checked coating at Fabworks earlier in the year with the intentions of making a jacket and I also bought some bright blue and black coating from The Shuttle a couple of months ago, oh and while I think about it I have also got some heavy crepe that would make a nice jacket.

I have also got a couple of jacket patterns bookmarked this this and this

I think I have just talked myself into this. I won't be able to start till October 'cos we are out on the boat from tomorrow.
It's not easy being this perfekt
