I have a sashiko machine and want to stitch down patches against a background cloth (like Wabi Sabi). Is there something that will hold them in place that I can remove later? (Not pins or safety pins, something I can stitch over).

I've got one of these
https://www.abakhan.co.uk/haberdashery/sprays-cleaners-protectors/fabric-glue-pen-and-refill-pink.html
it's not supposed to gum up your needle so ok for machine sewing.

Washaway Wondertape
- does not gum up the needle and it's repositionable.
Not a big fan of using pins when sewing and I use this stuff for all sorts of temporary holding jobs eg. holding zips in place, really fiddley placements, Holding hems in place for stitching on unstable fabrics, etc.
Also I use it with my machine embroidery hoops (on the bottom of the inner hoop).
Love the stuff.
