Caterpillar Crochet help please!
« on: September 21, 2018, 12:17:34 PM »
I've just found a pattern for a Very Hungry Caterpillar applique which is crocheted.  I've managed the head which is just a circle, but the body section pattern isn't very clear (to me!).

Can anyone help please?  Here's the bit I'm stuck on.
Am I supposed to work into just the last stitch? Why not just say sc 7?

1. Chain 6, sc 4, sc 3 into the last stitch
2. Working on the underside of the chain, sc3, sc2 in the last stitch (12) from here, work in the round

I'll keep trying, hoping that my brain cell comes up with something, but if anyone can help, I'd be very grateful.

I'm very much a novice when it comes to crochet patterns, but with 6 chains if 1 of those is for turning, that would leave you 4 chains for a SC into each of those and 1 chain for the 3 SC.

SiT thank you!I have no idea what I was thinking, but it certainly wasn't anything sensible!  What you have just written sounds just right, so I'll have a go now!

That's beautiful, @Efemera .  I've admired those kits but never had the courage to go ahead.  Please let us know how you get on with it.

@b15erk , I would guess that the pattern is American and the SC is what we would call a double crochet stitch?  I would interpret the pattern instructions the same way as @StitchinTime .

And as for @Francesca , well, if crochet is witchcraft then knitting is definitely the work of the devil

It reminds me of the blankets one of the ladies at craft club makes.  She has multiple health issues; poor vision and balance problems, but she can crochet with thick (DK) yarn and by using bright contrasting colours the results are stunning.  Unfortunately the show and tell photos don't get to the club website every month.
Brenda.  My machines are: Corona, a 1953 Singer 201K-3, Caroline, a 1940 Singer 201K-3, Thirza, 1949 Singer 221K, Azilia, 1957 Singer 201K-MK2 and Vera, a Husqvarna 350 SewEasy about 20 years old. Also Bernina 1150 overlocker and Elna 444 Coverstitcher.
