I've bought various jerseys before but the quality is so variable. I'm after:

Mainly cotton
Fairly stable, non-drapey
Thick enough to not be see-through but not ponte-thick
Doesn't pill, washes well

I have so many black t-shirts and such that are either so thin I have to wear a tank top underneath, or they pill horribly and go thin. I had this one striped jersey from a shop on Goldhawk Road that was just perfect. A nice medium weight, washed beautifully, lasted forever. Sadly they don't do it in plain colours.

How about this one?

It is fairly substantial, not at all drapy. I have a Style Arc Besharl T made from the off white colour, and it is not all see through.

I have had lovely cotton or cotton/lycra jersey from Croft Mill.  I haven't had black, but the white is really nice - I immediately bought more for the stash.
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

I went for this one in the end. It says it's more substantial than normal which is exactly what I'm after. They only had 1.4m left, so enough for a 3/4 sleeve top. Will see how it goes. If it's good hopefully they sell more!

I'm going to try out the Love Notions Class Tee in it, as their patterns usually fit me nicely.

Gives some basic, clear, plain information re gsm of a fabric and gives  the difference in weights for t shirt fabric. Basically the lower the gsm, the thinner the fabric.  Best to read through the whole page though. There is a lot of info on gsm, on the web, if you want to read more.

I wish more sites would list the gsm of the fabric they are selling, so that you can see if it is what you want rather than trying to guess the weight of it. Some tee shirt fabric can be really thin and yet the pictures on some sites may make it look heavier. I try to go off the gsm of a fabric now before purchasing.
