I want to make some ponte trousers. I have patterns which require stretch woven, but would a ponte fit the bill?

They might stretch a bit more, also some ponte stretches more than others. Does the pattern give a stretch % for fabric to be used?
Which pattern are you going to use?

I'm liking these Style Arc trousers.

I'm liking the tailored version on this.

You can see where I'm coming from. I've seen Ponte trousers in M&S and they have exposed metal zips, tailored details such as welted pockets. A bit smarter than pull-ons.

The patterns both suggest bengaline which has quite a lot of stretch. I've used it and ponte for the Barb and Elle pants both of which suggest bengaline so I think you would be okay. Ponte pull ons can still look smart. Depends on the top you wear with them I think.
I'd maybe allow extra seam allowance just in case your ponte isn't as stretchy as bengaline.

I have some very smart ponte pull ons from StyleARc 'Linda' cut with a deeper waistband, pockets and a tummy stay. I put contrast piping down the side seams which always gets compliments. Still feel like jimjams!

I made Linda's with a stretch gabardine (you need to watch that the waistband will stretch over your bum though!). I then pressed a crease in them and they look much better. I think they are a bit too wide not to have a crease.
