For those in the West Country - Plymouth - pattern cutting course

Rosieh

Last year I did a 10 week evening class at Plymouth College of Art. they do a beginners and then an advanced pattern cutting class. it is run by a guy who works at the local theatre in the costume department. he has endless patience. I found the whole thing quite mathematical. I haven't gone on to design my own patterns as such (more because I am not that clever at maths) but have used the block that we created many times since. One of the nicest things was to be able to 'talk sewing' for 3 hours each week without anyone glazing over! the course also used the industrial sewing machines and presses that were there for the students, so that was another new skill to learn. I have also done a bridal couture course at Alison Smith's school of sewing in Ashby De-La-Zouche. also very good, that was 3 solid days at the end of which I had produced a doll sized sample of all the skills learned. well worth it.
