Stitches that’s lovely, very patriotic.

The quilting looks very well done. I sometimes think we overthink things and a simpler approach gives a better outcome.

Lovely quilt.

IMO Railfence is one of the most effective blocks and at the same time very straightforward. there are so many different ways to play arpund with colour combinations

That’s really lovely.
I have never done any quilting and I’ve often wondered how on earth you machine quilt such a huge piece when it’s sewn together?
In fact, I’ve just ordered a beginners quilting book so I’m hoping to try some quilting myself.

Lovely! How did you find the QAYG without the sashing strips???

I love using a serpentine stitch for quilting ... Is that the one you used?

@WildAtlanticWay QAYG as mentioned in this thread is Quilt As You Go.
You quilt each block separately or join some blocks and quilt manageable strips and join them afterwards.

It's surprising though how much quilt you can stuff through a machine if you need to.
Life's too short for ironing.

I've decided not to try stuffing my latest scrap quilt into the machine and so I'm hand quilting it.  Yes it takes longer than machine quilting, but generally the sewing is less dense than if done by machine so it doesn't take that long.

QAYG has to be pre-planned, ie assembled in strips, which my scrappy top wasn't.  It can be done without sashing; you quilt one strip making sure the stitching stops about an inch or more from the edge.  Then join the next top strip and the next backing strip (separately!) and slide in a strip of wadding and quilt, going over the joins but leaving the sides unstitched.  Repeat as necessary.
