McCalls 6964 - sort of

I`ve been looking for a pattern that I could play around with and make fit properly - the aim being to have something I could use for every-day t-shirts in the Summer.
I ended up with McCalls 6964 which is described as a close fitting top, though I don`t think it looks very close fitting on the pattern envelope.  It curves in quite a bit at the waist, which I don`t, so I straightened it up and added a bit more at the side seams to accommodate my tummy.  I also raised the neckline a little bit, which I was nervous about as that meant shortening the neck band and moving some notches but it worked well.  Basically it is a size 16 but I have realised that I have a narrow upper chest and so made the front above the bustline a size 14 - as suggested by Sandra Betzina in her book Fast Fit and that helped a lot.
It might look a bit ordinary but - pause for fanfare - it fits!
(it`s viscose jersey from Textile Centre)

That looks lovely, @sewingj  !  The fabric is pretty too.  I loves me a V neck, very flattering.

Lovely fabric. Now you've adjusted the pattern you can make short sleeve t shirts, tunic length and dresses in all lengths. Then get adventurous & make diagonally seamed tops!

It won't look ordinary when it is on.  Trust me, nothing looks as good as something that fits.

Thanks Everyone. I know they are quite minor adjustments compared to what some of you do, but up until a few years ago I hadn't attempted to alter a pattern at all - so I am quite pleased with myself!

I rather like that!

I tend to like patterns I use more than once and will provide wardrobe staples. I still wear a top I made using fabric I bought from a little stall in Cambridge market, several years ago, at £2 per metre. It washes beautifully! I still have enough of a black heavyweight crepe I bought for same price on said stall, to make another couple of tunic tops.

It's great to have a pattern like that which is a good fit.  Mine is the Grainline Lark tee.  I've lost count of how many times I've used it.  My originals have recently been demoted to the 'farming' drawer.

That looks great, well done!  :toast: I hope to be able to say that (and mean it) someday.

Love this, it's so true

Yes, I have the pattern as well, in fact I use the sleeves for most of the pattern tops I have, they work just right on me, with some shortening on the long version.  I wasn't keen on the neckline as I prefer more  rounded but the pattern itself is great.  I like Palmer Pletsch patterns, they always work out just right for me.

It does not look at all 'ordinary'! Well done on perfecting the fit, now you can use the pattern again with confidence.

Here`s my latest version this time with short sleeves and a very slightly shorter neckband.  I`m very pleased with the fit now.
