Janome Atelier 5 - problems with Shank which holds the foot ...
« on: February 03, 2019, 11:34:35 AM »
Hi,
I have an Atelier 5 which I bought last November brand new, and I've  noticed what I think may be a problem..

The shank which holds the foot keeps coming loose after a few hours of use.
I tighten it up when this happens but it works itself loose again over time.
I'm wondering if the screw thread within the post which supports the shank is damaged ? :'(

Has anyone had similar problems (Maybe @Francesca and @Imenei may have some knowledge as I believe they both have/had this machine).
Thanks in advance,
Annieeg

I have that happen on my Jamome (another model) too.  I too always just tighten it by hand.
There's no workman, whatsoever he be, That may both work well and hastily

@Francesca    @Goth Gardiner
Thanks for the feedback

The shank actually fell off the post while I was stitching mid-seam and  .bounced under the needle.
AS this is a new machine and under full guarantee I think I really should  take it up with the shop I bought it from.

Take it up with the shop by all means ... I would.

Personally I haven't had this problem, but then I tighten with the screwdriver as my hands are fit for nothing.

Did you tighten it up, (not too much) with the screwdriver ???

@Iminei
I do tighten it up but am careful not to overtighten, I then check it doesn't wobble/isn't loose.
However, after a little while it becomes loose.
I think it might be connected to the movement (vibration) of the machine stitching which makes the screw holding the post in place to become loose.
I've written an e-mail to the dealer (who does have a website but with no terms and conditions!!) and will see what the feedback is.
I don't want to have a "fight" about it, but £899 for a new machine (purchased late October 2018) which appears to have a fault is not something I can just shrug my shoulders about.
I shall post another thread in The Café as I have learned something interesting about payment plans today which other forum members might find useful to know ...

Under guarantee (and how), if its a problem to you, they should fix it!

If no joy with the dealer get straight on to Janome! They are very helpful!

Could be it’s been overtightened and the thread has gone.  I’ve seen this happen before. The dealer should be able to check for you.
