Need a name

My 6 year old DGS has been sewing at school and now wants to sew with grandma :loveit: 0_0 :D

I have lots of brightly coloured wool and some bodkins but for the life of me I can’t remember the name of that fabric we used to learn to embroider on. It’s woven with holes in a grid formation.

We did a little bit yesterday with some pre punched felt and he enjoyed it and I do want to encourage this. Anything to keep him off computer games.

When it's finer it's aida, but I don't know whether the larger stuff is the same.
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

Yes - binca!  I knew as soon as I'd posted that it had another name.

Binca is really just a coarse version of aida.

6 count Binca      20 count Aida
