Are you a complete beginner to using a sewing machine or just to using an overlocker?

New to overlocker, but familiar with sewing.  Thank you

Never heard of Silver and the Jaguar seems not to have a free-arm capability, whereas the Singer s14-78 does.

Singer 538, there are many like it, but this one is mine.

Might Silver be Silver Reed - Knitmaster as was - they used to do sewing machines.

I had a Silver sewing machine for years and found it excellent, never tried their overlockers though.

I’d go for the Jaguar.  I’ve used several makes over the years and never found a .silver yet that sewed particularly well.  The Jaguars are easy to thread and those I’ve used have always sounded nice and worked quite well.

Thank you everybody.  I’m still feeling very scared about buying one!

They are all very similar, threading is not as hard as it seems.

@Peaofsweetness where were you thinking of buying it from!   This can make a big difference.  If you get it from a local shop they should be able to show you how to set it up and use it.  That’s worth any amount of discount you might get online.
Other makes worth considering are Janome and for ease of threading, Brother.  The new Berninas are lovely but double the price.  And of course, Babylock are probably the easiest to thread but very expensive.
Trust me, once you’ve had one and used it, you’d never be without one!    :)

@Peaofsweetness Have you thought about taking a class before buying an overlocker so you can have a clearer idea of what it can do and what features to look for when buying one. Some places require you to bring your own machine, but others have workshop machines you can use.

I probably should have waited a little longer and listened to the latest advice before ordering!! I’ve taken the plunge and my Jaguar overlocker arrives tomorrow.  Let’s hope I’ve made the right decision!!! Thank you to everybody.

Here’s hoping you enjoy using it.  Does it come with a DVD.  If so that’s a good start.
