I think it would be a shame to lose it - my impression was also that people were bemoaning their lack of a reason to make one. Even if there aren't many entries it will still be a nice one to watch. I could do with one myself for the cruise we have booked in May but I don't think I have time to make it.

That was my question, maybe I should have said 'how posh does it need to be?' I wasn't planning on something I'd wear to the beach, but I don't have any 'occasions' popping up this year.

I think it would be a shame to lose it to.

I admit I don’t get invited to the Queen’s Garden parties, or to Ascot, or “occasions” like this  :P  But, we have family birthday lunches/dinners,weddings, christening or simply going for lunch with friends, and it’s nice to be able have something nice to wear.

Most of the time I’m dressed in dog walking clothes, so I relish the opportunity to get dressed up a bit. I think that’s why I like vintage so much, everyday clothes in the 40’s and 50’s are now classed as “posh”.

I think I’ll start a campaign to bring back elegance. @Manuela, I love your elegant creations.

How about calling it the 'Smart Dress Contest' perhaps?

Maybe would cover the dresses people have already mentioned?

What they all said.  :)
My idea of wearing a posh frock is my 'going out' jeans.  :|
I don't own a dress and haven't for about thirty years. Something to do with the 10" FBA required.  :'( I'd love to though.
Keep the contest. I'm in awe of the makes on here and love to see what people come up with.  :loveit:

... I didn’t intend to put up a contest people ridicule and snigger about  :(

I'm quite sure no-one is doing that, @Manuela , more like laughing at themselves and the idea of them dressing up.
Please keep the contest, surely any slightly smart outfit would be a suitable entry?  By slightly smart, I mean not jeans or a gardening skirt I think...

Ditto, I won't be going to weddings this year but sometimes I am 'dressed up'.  That's the nearest I get to posh at the moment, when I am a guest and not wearing my everyday clothes. We all need something for the times we have to show we are making an effort.  (Your language was perfect)

I think sometimes your comments @Francesca are a little harsh too. Manuela’s first language isn’t English and it’s sometimes hard to get the gist of things.

I think it would be nice to keep the competition and I agree that there are degrees of poshness and specialness that we can relate to even if a lot of us seem to live 'forever in blue jeans' as the song says. We really appreciate your efforts in putting these competitions together @Manuela.

Most definitely keep it.

I'm sorry if I've offended you Manuela, my post certainly wasn't meant to. I'm always in awe of everything you make!

Ok, we keep it then. With Posh Frock I was mocking the trainwreck Channel 4 show some of us were watching. ‘Posh’ dress or outfit might have a different meaning for many, depending on their life style. Some people’s occasion might be the birthday of a friend, other’s going to see ‘Endgame’ in late April (yay) or going to a wedding..... whatever your occasions is, and if its’s only that you want to have a nice dress or outfit in your closet - that all goes.

Well I made my posh frock for the stash busting comp but I do have some of the fabric let over (lots actually as it was originally curtains) so may make a skirt and top for the evening do.
Does a skirt and top qualify as a posh frock?
Amended:  :| just seen the title of the comp so have answered my own question. Really must learn to read properly.

I'm in the any dress at all is posh for me lot.
I do have dress patterns and even some fabric.  Now could be the time to get on with it.

I might not be able to make it in a month as I'm only just starting with learning fit adjustments. I don't expect having narrow square shoulders and a full bust will be easy.

Well I’ve started... 3 toiles  later and it’s still not a good fit, it’s the SewOverit vintage shirt dress, looks so simple but I think I need more shaping. I might change the gathers for darts.
